O&M (Original and Mineral)

Meet the women we need to thank for pioneering the way of ammonia-free hair colour in Australia.

Jose Bryce Smith, Founder and CEO of O&M (Original & Mineral).

Not only does it take a lot of courage to compete against the big brands…and come to the market place with your own hair care product line, it takes even more strength to be the odd one out and have to reeducate a whole industry.

Today we hear the story about an Australian brand that is a powerhouse product stocked across the globe in 15 counties and several continents.

About Jose Bryce Smith

Jose Bryce Smith is a head above the rest. Once a Vogue Beauty Editor’s ‘best-kept secret’, Bryce
Smith is the original pioneer of ammonia-free hair colour in Australia, and the Founder / CEO of clean luxury haircare company, Original & Mineral (O&M). Her haircare line is a powerhouse, stocked across the globe and responsible for the expert colouring and five-free formula of O&M aficionados across 15 countries and several continents. You see, Bryce Smith is in the business of saving your health through your hair.

She is not only transparent about her personal journey under the magnifying glass of entrepreneurial scrutiny, Bryce Smith continues to be a candid voice around wellness and ‘hair colour as a health choice’. Brought up to believe that health is number one, to stay away from chemicals, and that life as a gift is not for wasting; Bryce Smith blazed a trail in the green beauty space long before the term evolved in the minds of the beauty community. She was, and still is, driven by an authentic need to provide consumers with a superior yet natural solution to hair care, and always believed O&M as a leading clean luxury brand would, much like food, makeup and skincare, become a health choice.

She’s as tenacious as she is busy. When she’s not hopping between the company’s Sydney based headquarters and the O&M NYC Salon Academy, she is factoring in meetings with her team, vendors, investors, new business opportunities, and working diligently on her objective to sustain a full concept for salons around healthy hair. All that, while donning her mother-of-two hat.

Having built her brand from the salon up in Sydney, O&M sits at the luxury end of the clean beauty movement; and now straddles high-end retail (think Net-a-Porter and Sephora) and the professional credibility of hair salons globally. The business provides a front door to back door/haircare to salon service, that’s boutique enough, nimble enough and conscious enough to stay ahead of the curve and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage.

With their factories in NSW creating all their haircare, and their specialised O&M hair colour developed in Italy, this Australian business is rolling out further expansion plans to meet demand from overseas distributors; while observing their commitment to sustainability through immediate plans such as moving to full ocean recyclable packaging.

Bryce Smith has over her twenty-year tenure with O&M won some, and lost some; indeed, she
unreservedly discerns she has made all the mistakes on behalf of those businesses that have
subsequently joined the green beauty arena. However, armed with a resolve to control her own destiny, a commitment to bridging the gap between natural and luxury; and persistence to several years of the research and development of her own ammonia, ppd, resorcinol free hair colour; Bryce Smith has successfully and authentically tapped into the wellness lifestyle choice.

Today, as we collectively value and understand the importance of health, this Australian business stands at the leading end; led by a female entrepreneur who is providing important, observable examples of what can be accomplished when you truly believe in something that will have a positive contribution to our planet.

Kylie Roberts loves business, learning and evolving. An entrepreneur, Kylie is the cofounder of Aleenta Barre.

Aleenta is a wellness brand which helps make healthy easy. With 7 Studios in VIC, SA and QLD, Aleenta is a space for women to unapologetically focus on themselves. We spend so much time focused on everyone else, it’s time and space for you to fill your own cup.

The next evolution of Aleenta is ‘me by Aleenta’ – our on-demand platform. Annually we survey our customers and ask them their #1 struggle with their health. And consistently it’s time (or lack there of) and motivation. We all want to make healthier choices, but sometimes it’s hard. Hard to fit it in, hard to choose. Hard to prioritise. We get it.

Me by Aleenta is your motivator, personal nutritionist and friend all-in-one. With workouts less than 30mins, nutritional tools, and a strong community of women who have your back.

Kylie is also an award-winning franchisee of endota spa. She joined the network in 2004 when there were four locations. Today there are more than 100 spas around Australia. She was the first endota marketing manager, a shareholder of the endota group and lead endota’s first organic product arm. Kylie has won multiple Franchise Industry Awards and endota day spa of the year multiple times.

Prior to running her own businesses, Kylie worked for large Corporates including ANZ, Pernod Ricard and Coca-Cola in Brand and Marketing Management. Kylie is a wife, daughter and sister. And super proud mum to three boys – Angus, and twins Christian and Jasper, and step-mum to her husband’s three children.
